Gear Up For Game Wardens

Keeping Texas Wild

TPWF’s S. Reed Morian Gear Up For Game Wardens program keeps Texas game wardens the best trained conservation officers in the nation.

About the Program

The state of Texas provides the necessities game wardens require to do their jobs, but there is still a need for highly specialized equipment. These needs vary across the state, but whatever those needs are, TPWF is there to make sure game wardens have what they need to continue their work.

Through private donations, and in collaboration with groups of dedicated individuals, TPWF’s S. Reed Morian Gear Up for Game Wardens program funds the acquisition of equipment to make sure Texas game wardens provide the high level of service the people of Texas have come to expect. More importantly, gearing up the wardens ensures they have everything they need to do their jobs safely.

Since the program launched in October 2017, more than $5 million has been raised to improve the services offered by Texas game wardens and to equip them with specialty equipment.

The equipment provided by the program includes search and rescue (SAR) drones, SAR inflatable boats, side-scan sonar units, water rescue dry suits, night vision and thermal imaging units, ATVs, UTVs, and specialized K-9 units.

Texas game wardens have kept watch over Texas’s wild places and wild things for over 100 years. The land they patrol is vast—over 10 million miles by vehicle and great distances by boat, across 254 counties. The work of TPWF makes sure they have what they need to do their jobs for all Texans.
