Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation (TPWF) is pleased to partner with Garrison Brothers Distillery to raise money for repairs to the iconic West Texas spring-fed swimming pool at Balmorhea State Park. TPWF has established a fund to raise $2 million for the repairs. Apache Corporation announced earlier this year that they are providing a challenge grant and will match gifts up to $1 million. The Garrison Brothers Distillery donation will be part of the match.

“For every bottle of Balmorhea Bourbon sold this year, we will donate $5 to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation to restore Balmorhea State Park’s pool,” said Dan Garrison, founder and proprietor of Garrison Brothers Distillery. “The park is in dire need of some tender loving care, and we want to continue giving back to the springs that have given so much to generations of Texas families.”

The iconic spring-fed pool at Balmorhea State Park in West Texas has been closed since early May after part of the structure collapsed during the pool’s annual cleaning. The labor-intensive job will repair the damage to the concrete apron used to stabilize the diving board along the east headwall. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department reports that months of thorough evaluation, including extensive geotechnical examination, found that the structural failure was due to years of undermining erosion behind the wall caused by the flow of water from the springs.

“Generations of Texans have enjoyed the cool, clear waters at Balmorhea, and we’re grateful that companies like Garrison Brothers Distillery are stepping up to help,” said Anne Brown, Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation Executive Director. “We hope everyone who has ever dipped a toe in this Texas treasure will consider making a donation to help us meet Apache Corporation’s challenge grant.”
